This video, approximately four minutes and fourteen seconds, is the city council’s discussion and vote on whether the issue of merging the offices of City Clerk and City Treasurer into the office of City Clerk-Treasurer should be voted upon by the citizens of Helena-West Helena:
Now, as the petition drive continues, the other option for having the people to decide on this issue is to gather enough petition signatures (about 700) so as to require that an election be held on the question. Here’s a link to the petition:

At this point, it is up to the citizens to decide the question. Action or inaction will cause the question to be answered. If enough signatures are gathered, then the election on this important question will be held on November 2, 2010. If there are not enough signatures gathered by May 6, 2010, then the offices will be merged in due course.
